Organising and Resistance Hip Hop Cheat Sheet
On this podcast we discuss organising and resistance hip hop.
We play two segments which link as hip hop builds and strengthens communities.
Part one of a podcast series called Rebel Steps leads the discussion on community building. Launched in June 2018 Rebel Steps is a podcast for people who want to be involved in political action but don’t know where to start. The segment is called Be An Organiser (Affinity).
Basically about how anyone can start an initiative in their community to make the world a better place. This this is what anarchism is all about.
It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that the role of organizer or activist is a specialized job. But everyone should be empowered to be an organizer and an activist. That doesn’t mean that tomorrow you’ll call a rally. But it does mean that you can mobilize your friends and family. These kinds of relationships are the foundation of larger movements.
The Trouble documentary is called And You Don’t Stop: Hip Hop as Resistance. I edited a 20 minute radio cut out of the full documentary it’s like a cheat sheet. This focuses on the aspects of hip hop as community building and women in hip hop.
It’s also important to keep in mind the vital role that culture plays in building effective movements of resistance. Trouble.
I learnt early that I had to be three times better than the guys to even remotely get even recognised and it made me already come out swinging and I never stopped swinging. Sima Lee.
